Garage Door Repair and New Doors in North York
Walk down almost any street in Willowdale or Bayview Village and you will see the whole story of North York garages on one block: a 1950s bungalow with its original single garage, next to a new custom home with a full-view glass door. They need very different things, and we work on both.
Post-war bungalows and original garages
A lot of North York was built in the 1950s and 1960s: Don Mills, Downsview, Bathurst Manor, Lawrence Manor and much of Willowdale. Many of those homes have single-car garages, some attached and some detached at the back of the lot, and some still have a one-piece tilt-up door or an early sectional door with extension springs.
Parts for some of these older systems are hard to find or no longer made, and the garage openings are often not a standard size. When a door like this fails, we will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired or whether replacement is the sensible choice. Often the answer is a new sectional door with torsion springs, sized to the opening.
New custom homes and modern doors
North York has more new custom builds than almost anywhere in the GTA, as original bungalows are replaced lot by lot. Those homes tend to want something more than a standard raised-panel door: flush modern panels, full-view aluminium and glass, black frames, wood-look finishes. These doors are heavier and the glass ones are very sensitive to balance, so getting the springs and hardware right matters as much as the look.
If you are building or renovating, it helps to bring us in before framing is finished. The opening size, the headroom above it and where the opener goes are all easier to get right on a drawing than after the drywall is up.
Townhouses and condo garages
In townhouse complexes the garage door is often controlled by the condominium corporation, which may set the style and colour of any replacement. If you are in a complex, check with your property manager first. We are happy to work to whatever specification the board requires.
