Garage Door Repair in Toronto

Toronto garages are not like suburban ones, and the repairs reflect that. A lot of the city's stock is detached, at the back of the lot, reached by a shared laneway, and older than the people living in the house. That changes what goes wrong.

Detached and laneway garages

Much of the older city — the Annex, Riverdale, Leslieville, Parkdale, the Junction — has garages at the rear off a laneway. These are usually unheated, often on original foundations, and frequently have doors that predate the current owner.

The common problems here are frames that have shifted with the ground, tracks knocked out of alignment by tight laneway turns, and old extension spring setups without safety cables. That last one matters: an extension spring without a containment cable can whip across the garage when it fails.

Older doors and obsolete parts

On a door that is thirty or forty years old, the honest conversation is often about whether repair still makes sense. Parts for some older systems are no longer manufactured, and a door that needs springs, cables, rollers and a track section is approaching the cost of a new one that will not need touching for years.

We will tell you which side of that line you are on rather than replacing something that has life left in it. What actually drives the price of a replacement is set out here.

Narrow openings and tight headroom

City garages are frequently narrower and lower than suburban standard, and converted or rebuilt garages often have non-standard openings. That means custom sizing rather than stock, and sometimes a low-headroom track configuration where a conventional one will not fit.

What we repair in Toronto

  • Broken torsion and extension springs.

  • Openers that hum, strain or will not respond.

  • Frayed and snapped cables.

  • Doors off their tracks, and bent or misaligned track.

  • Worn rollers, hinges and bearings.

  • Panel replacement after impact.

  • Full replacement where repair no longer makes sense.

Access and parking, honestly

Laneway access is genuinely tighter and a job can take longer than the same work in a driveway. We would rather say that up front than surprise you with it. If you can tell us the laneway situation when you call, we can plan for it.
