Garage Doors in King City and King Township: Custom, Oversized and Estate Homes
Garages in King Township are not like garages in the suburbs. On estate lots around King City, Nobleton and Schomberg you find three- and four-car garages, side-load layouts, carriage-style and wood-overlay doors, oversized openings for trucks and trailers, and detached workshops and coach houses. These doors are bigger and heavier, they cost more, and the mistakes made on them are more expensive.
Heavy doors need properly sized springs
A custom or wood-overlay door can weigh several times what a standard steel door does. The springs have to be calculated from the door's real weight and height. The opener should do almost no lifting at all: its job is to move a door that is already balanced. When springs are undersized, or sized off a chart for a standard door, the door drifts down when you stop it halfway, the opener strains and wears out early, and cables and bearings carry loads they were never meant to.
A quick test: pull the emergency release with the door closed and lift it to about waist height. A balanced door stays roughly where you leave it. If it falls or shoots up, the springs are wrong or worn. Our maintenance checklist walks through it safely.
Openers for big doors
Large and heavy doors often suit a wall-mount (jackshaft) opener, which drives the torsion bar directly and frees up the ceiling. That matters in garages with high ceilings, lifts or storage racks. Battery backup is worth having anywhere, and more so in the countryside, where the power tends to go out more often and stay out longer than in town.
Custom and carriage-style replacement doors
Real wood doors look beautiful and take a lot of upkeep. Many King homeowners replacing a tired wood door choose an insulated steel door with a wood-look or carriage-style finish. It gives the same street appeal with no refinishing, better insulation and a much lighter load on the hardware. Every door on a custom opening is measured and ordered to size. Our doors are made in Canada and carry a lifetime warranty.
Workshops, barns and outbuildings
Detached workshops and equipment buildings often need taller or wider doors than a house garage, and sometimes a heavier-duty door built for more cycles. We supply and install those, and the commercial-grade options we use for commercial overhead doors are available where a building gets heavy use.
